More than 20 redevelopment professionals from the public and private sectors came to the Hutchinson City Center on July 15th for a one day workshop designed to either introduce participants to EPA grants dedicated to Brownfields Cleanup and Redevelopment or to sharpen and refresh the skills of those who’ve completed the grant process in the past.

The highly competitive grant program has a limited budget each year, and only the best applicants are awarded funds. The level of competition is reflected in the overall quality of the entries, nearly all of which earn 90% or more of the possible points during evaluation. Furthermore, the lowest scored successful applications might have earned 95% or more of those points.

We’re grateful to Minnesota Brownfields and the Technical Assistance to Brownfields Program at Kansas State University for their efforts and passion for this work. MN Brownfields and TAB provide comprehensive resources and guidance to communities and not-for-profits in addressing the ubiquitous need to redevelop contaminated properties. The importance of this work is that it allows municipalities to address the ever-changing land use demands of citizens and businesses by: creating opportunities within older neighborhoods; removing blight; and responding to the incompatible uses that can arise as industries become obsolete, businesses fail and housing expectations change.

MITGI:  2014 Image Award Winner, Minnesota Business Magazine Manufacturing Awards

HUTCHINSON, MN – September 25, 2014

Midwest Industrial Tool Grinding, Inc. (MITGI) has been awarded the 2014 Image Award, one of eleven Manufacturing Awards presented by Minnesota Business Magazine.  A first time finalist for the award, MITGI was honored to be recognized for their efforts to improve the industry’s image and the appeal of careers in manufacturing.

“Manufacturing is growing and thriving in Minnesota, and we’re pleased to help promote and represent the best that our industry has to offer,” explains Eric Lipke, MITGI General Manager.  “We believe that by helping students and parents to better understand the opportunities that exist for good paying, rewarding careers in manufacturing, we’re helping to pave the way for a new era in manufacturing.”

Committed to community and education, MITGI encourages and supports the steady flow of young men and women entering into manufacturing-related programs.  Through participation in advisory boards, scholarships, paid internships, on-site tours, and classroom visits, MITGI strives to inspire students to explore careers in the industry.  “The owners at MITGI recognize schools as community assets, and we are proud to help serve and support them,” noted Lipke.  “When students consider career paths that utilize their skills in math and interest in technology, such as those found in modern-day manufacturing facilities, our local community thrives.”

Located in Minnesota, MITGI manufactures and markets standard and custom cutting tools. Combining innovation with quality and repeatability, MITGI tools have become the product of choice in many R&D departments and manufacturing facilities that serve the medical, automotive, computer, and aerospace industries.
